S_ForSoccer Match Day 1 Review of English Premier League ( EPL ) 2020/2021 Season

The EPL 2020/2021 Season is up and running, and as it has been in the new normal, soccer is being played behind closed doors. 16 of the 20 Teams were in action with the two Manchester giants being granted a one-week break following their mini-European tournament involvement thus their opponents Burnley and Aston Villa got a 7-day breather as well. How it faired:-

Crystal Palace 1-0 Southampton: (Zaha)

The eagles got their best ever start to the season with talisman Zaha scoring early on to give Crystal Palace all three points against the Saints who boasted 71% of the ball possession.  They had to defend resolutely and had keeper Guaita to thank for superb saves throughout the match.

Liverpool 4-3 Leeds: (Salah-hattrick, Van Dijk--- Bamford, Klich M., Harrison)

It was a great game at Anfield for all watchers as defending premier league champions Liverpool hosted championship winners Leeds United. The game was full of attacking flair as well as defensive calamities either sides. Klopp’s men eventually came up on top with Salah netting a hattrick, albeit two from the penalty spots, Van Dijk nodding in another while Bielsa’s men scored via Bamford, Klich and Harrison in an amazing 7 goals thriller. It will be a great journey to watch for both of these sides and it is surely anyone’s guess if Liverpool will defend the title and in which position Les will finish in.

West Ham 0-2 Newcastle: (Wilson, Hendrick)

Steve Bruce men began the season on a high, bossing the game, and attempting 15 shots against West Ham. They ended up winning the game 2-0 with new boys Wilson and Hendrick having their best ever debut for the toons. David Moyes will have to improve his charges quickly to avoid the dog-fight relegation battle like last season.

Tottenham 0-1 Everton (Calvert-Lewin)

It was the battle of the veteran coaches, Mourinho versus Ancelotti. Spurs defended and looked to play on the break always as Jose’s teams always do. New Everton boy James Rodriguez bossed the midfield alongside fellow new recruits Allan and Doucoure and could have won by way too much were it not for their wastefulness in front of the goal. They ended up winning the game courtesy of Calvert-Lewin’s solo headed goal that surely proves a great signing for the Goodison outfit. Mourinho lost his first ever season opening game and will have to adapt quickly to maintain his top coach status but improving on their 6th finish last time out.

Sheffield Utd 0-2 Wolves (Jimenez, Saiss)

Nuno’s men began the season with a win a way at Chris Wilders men courtesy of early goals from Jimenez and Saiss.
